Introduction to Emergency Disaster Service

Emergency Animal Sheltering
Sponsored by MISART: An expanded two-day course is being planned for fall 2008. This will include an improved classroom portion, a tabletop exercise, and a full day of hands-on setting up, operating, and tearing down a temporary animal shelter. Watch for details later this year!
The MISART Board has approved a two-tiered mandatory
training regimen for state-level responders. In order to apply to be a
state-level SART member in Michigan, animal professionals should
complete all Level 1 courses and submit their transcripts online along
with the SART application via the MISART website Contact page.
LEVEL 1:
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Independent Study Program
- Animals in Disaster: Module - Awareness and Preparedness (IS 10)
- Animals in Disaster: Module - Community Planning (IS 11)
- Incident Command System (ICS 100)
- Livestock in Disasters (IS 111)
- ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents (ICS 200)
- National Incident Management System (NIMS), an Introduction (IS 700)
- National Response Plan (IS 800)
LEVEL 2:
- Emergency Animal Sheltering (MISART sponsored, see above)
- Swift Water Rescue (Basic or Operational level)
- Emergency Animal Euthanasia (only applies to non-veterinary responders, available to animal shelter staff members)
