About
The Michigan State Animal Response Team (MI-SART) formed in 2006 and is a 501(c)3non-profit organization dedicated to helping owners and their pets during disaster /
emergency events that occur in Michigan. MI-SART entered into a Memorandum of
Understanding to work with the Michigan American Red Cross to develop collocated
shelters (the first in the nation).
MI-SART is recognized as an official response team in the Michigan Emergency
Management Response Plan. When activated through the State Emergency Operations
Center, MI-SART coordinates with State and County emergency programs to meet the
needs of the pet owning population of the affected community / communities. MI-SART
has worked with County emergency management agencies in determining what would be
acceptable collocated emergency shelters.
All MI-SART members are volunteers that have an interest in the human-animal welfare.
