Understanding the Process
The world of disaster response is one of compassion, excitement and cooperation.
Understanding how the disaster response effort unfolds is a crucial piece of mounting an effective response and as such, MISART requires all members to complete courses through FEMA. These courses are 100% online and offered at absolutely no cost to the student.
These courses are just the beginning to understanding disaster response and we encourage all MISART members to continue their education through taking further FEMA courses, many of which are also offered online and free.
Joining
Joining MISART is as easy as 1-2-3. Follow the steps below to become a member. If at any time you have questions about the process, please do not hesitate to contact us at membership@michigansart.org.
Easy as 1-2-3
1. Complete all required FEMA Independent Study Program (ISP) training
- IS-11 Animals in Disaster: Community Planning
- IS-100.b - Introduction to Incident Command System
- IS-700.a NIMS An Introduction
2. Create a profile at the Michigan Volunteer Registry
3. Upload all FEMA certificates of completion to the your MI Volunteer profile, choose the "Michigan State Animal Response Team" in the list of organizations, and submit your request.
Upon review of your application, completion of a criminal background check, and verification of certificates you will be invited to join MISART and e-mailed further information.
